CHRIS AND MARILYN STARTED THE CLEVELAND SEED BANK AND SEED LIBRARIES.THIS IS A SMALL GRASS ROOTS PROJECT HOPING TO GROW. WE WILL LEARN HOW THEY GOT STARTED AND WHAT THEY ARE PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE.

ANDREW IS OWNER AND FOUNDER OF THE WESTERN RESERVE HERITAGE SEED CO. HIS COMPANY WAS BEGUN WITH THE INTENTION OF OFFERING A LARGE SELECTION OF NON-GMO, NON HYBRID, OPEN POLLINATED HEIRLOOM AND HERITAGE SEEDS. ANDREW WILL SPEAK ON THE IMPORTANCE OF BIODIVERSITY AND PRESERVING OUR “SEED” HERITAGE. PLUS WHAT FUN IS IT TO GROW.

NANCY HUGHES IS SUSTAINABILITY MANAGER FOR THE CLEVELAND METRO ZOO. SHE LISTS HER SPECIALTIES AS SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES AND RECYCLING OPERATIONS. NOW WE WILL LEARN WHAT REALLY HAPPENS WITH ALL THOSE EXCITING LEFTOVERS FROM HIPPOS TO HYENAS!

PAULA DAMN IS THE NURSE FOR SHAKER HEIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL AS WELL AS A MASTER GARDENER. SHE IS THE GUARDIAN OF THE AUDREY STOUT LEARNING GARDEN! AUDREY WAS A LONG TIME MEMBER OF TOWN AND COUNTRY AND A WONDERFUL GARDENER IN EVERY WAY. SO TODAY WE MEET TO HONOR ONE OF OUR OWN AND LEARN ABOUT THE FORMATION OF HER MEMORY GARDEN.

THE RUST BELT RIDERS IS AN ECO-CONSCIOUS COMPOSTING BUSINESS CREATING WEALTH FROM WASTE. NATHAN, DIRECTOR OF SOIL, WILL GUIDE US ON A TOUR OF THEIR FACILITY WHERE WE WILL SEE ACTUAL HUGE PILES OF SCRAPS FROM AREA RESTAURANTS BEING TURNED INTO USABLE COMPOST.

TIM WILL LEAD US THROUGH THE INS AND OUTS OF HYDROPONICS. WHY IT IS A GOOD WAY TO GROW PLANTS. WHAT IT DOES FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT, AND FOR OUR OWN BODIES. THIS IS A RARE TREAT AS TOURS THROUGH GREAT LAKES ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN.
